RICHMOND - Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling today issued the following statement on the Obama Administration's decision to exclude Virginia from its 5-year program for Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Development:
"I am extremely disappointed by the Obama Administration's decision to exclude Virginia from the nation's offshore oil and gas leasing program for 2012-2017. There is no acceptable reason for the federal government to continue to prevent our state from developing our off shore energy resources. Development of our offshore energy resources would help Virginia achieve a greater degree of economic security, while helping the nation achieve a greater degree of energy security. This decision deprives our state of the economic resources and jobs that could be created by offshore energy development. We simply cannot afford to wait another five years to develop our offshore energy resources. It is apparent that the Obama Administration is unconcerned with creating additional jobs and opportunity for the people of Virginia, a fact that voters should remember this November."
