BOLLING ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF NATIONAL LIEUTENANT GOVERNORS ASSOCIATION
Bolling unanimously elected by Lieutenant Governors across the country to lead bi-partisan organization
Friday, July 31, 2009Richmond - Virginia Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling was elected Chairman of the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) today. Bolling was unanimously elected by a bi-partisan group of his peers at the Association's annual meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. Bolling had previously served as Vice Chairman and Treasurer of the NLGA. He also serves on the Association's Executive Committee.
"I am honored that my colleagues from across the country have asked me to serve as Chairman of NLGA for the next year," Lieutenant Governor Bolling said. "I look forward to working with them to build on the successes of the NLGA and help build bi-partisan consensus around realistic and workable solutions to the challenges facing our states and our nation."
"The nation's lieutenant governors find within the NLGA the tools to contribute at the highest level and collegiality that knows no bounds," said Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton (D-Wisconsin), outgoing NLGA Chair. "I pass the gavel to Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling with complete confidence that his leadership will keep up on the path to progress by every measure."

"He has been a leader in helping advance the mission of NLGA over the past four years, and he has earned their confidence and trust."
During his term as Lieutenant Governor, Bill Bolling has championed several NLGA's initiatives in Virginia. Through the Steptember program, Ending Cervical Cancer In Our Lifetime initiative, Helping Virginians Breath Easier campaign and the Lieutenant Governor's Challenge: Your Heart Is In Your Hands program, Lieutenant Governor Bolling has helped focus public attention on important health care issues like obesity, cervical cancer, asthma and heart health.
Additionally, earlier this year Lieutenant Governor Bolling received an award from the American College of Cardiology for his work in promoting cardiovascular health through the Lieutenant Governor's Challenge program.
The NLGA was formed in 1962 and is the professional association for elected officials who are first in line of succession to the Governors of the 50 states and five territorial jurisdictions of the United States. The NLGA provides its members an opportunity to network, discuss issues of common interest, share best practices and foster interstate cooperation. The NLGA also seeks to promote the effectiveness of the Office of Lieutenant Governor and its inhabitants.
